Numbers

Two 2.5's. One 1.5. One 1.0. Great.

Depressed. That's probably what I can be described as during the course cards day. The day of Judgment, as what me and the gang call it. I've got my grades already, and it's not the grades one would be proud of. I know, at least I passed. But it's not a reason to be happy. I don't wanna settle for mediocrity. Yeah, but I know for a fact that I deserved that grade. I've been guilty of being quite complacent and here it is, the consequence of my stupidity. I know for myself that I can do better at my academics. I just have to find the right (and lasting) motivation to get things done right and get that 4.0.

When after course cards day, It has been usually my tradition to go alone to Starbucks to reflect and this time, to grieve. So after I got all my cards, I found myself ordering the usual cinnamon swirl and that strawberries and cream frap, then found a seat in that comfy shop and slacked off. As I watch people while sipping through the straw, I've come to ponder on a question that crossed my mind.

"Why does this numbers affect us so much? They're just numbers."

Let's face it. These numbers we call grades affects us greatly as a human being. It dictates the kind of work and career we would get. Add to that, these dictates the quality of life we would have. And, to some extent, these numbers dictate the kind of people we would be. Why is that so? Is these numbers that so important that it holds key to our pivotal moments in life?

Grades, just like money, is important too. These helps us to better ourselves to be prepared for the world of vicious predators and cruel monkeys. It's isn't bad too be a GC person. But, just like money, it shouldn't be the center of our lives. Studying to get good grades isn't bad, as long as you get the essence of what you're studying for.

Crap. I can't believe I'm this depressed. Halata pang minadali ko tong post ko. :P Siguro depressed ako dahil din hindi ako nakakuha ng tickets for Sunday's game. Man, wala na akong pera para sa scalper bumili. Amf. Oh well. I hope La Salle wins this time.

Direction

I apologize yet again for my long unannounced hiatus. School has been very tough now that our finals week is fast approaching, and add to that, our internet connection had problems due to the rain. Also, my creative juices had dried up yet again that's why i have been dormant these past few days (or is it weeks?).

As I said, our finals week is fast approaching, and life could not get any worst for me. I still have to do lots of reports and term papers and i need to do them fast. There's so many work to do, but there's so little time. each day gets stressful and the pressure is getting intense. I don't know if i can still take it. So if you'd see me turn into a psycho walking around naked while singing that sinabawang gulay song, you know what to blame.

Time flies so fast, and in a matter of weeks we'll be seeing the end of our first term as sophomore students. We'll be getting our course cards and in a few months time, our diplomas. We're already halfway through the course but here i find myself in a dilemma. Recently, I've been thinking of shifting to another course, that is, communication arts. My course now had been quite suffocating, with all those science subjects driving me mad. I have come to doubt if i had made the right course choice. I mean, the course is manageable, but I'm not sure if I'd really like the options available for me after college.

I love the discipline of psychology. I love the psych topics and all of its applications, but I don't know if it's the best thing for me.

But why communication arts? You might ask. I've loved the limelight since I was a kid. I've tried venturing into the show business when I auditioned for 5 and up, a renowned show hosted by kids. The production, the set, and all the stuff that made that show run for a long period of time fascinated me. I've also loved imagining myself as a movie producer/director. Aside from that, I have this fascination for publications, photographs and all those artsy stuff. Add the fact that my Granddad and my Dad works in an advertising firm, which means that I can have guidance as I go on.

Despite the promises of communication arts, I'm still confused. I'm not certain on what direction I should take. Both courses promise a good career. I hope I can make a decision as soon as possible. You, what do you think? Should I go shift, or not?

Return

This day marked the start of my second year in college.

And man was it stressful! I was 45 minutes late in my first class because of that damn problematic LRT, and I had to walk a distance from the station to our building. I also had to awfully line up for the elevator. During that time, i felt like i'm in a new world, because there were so many new, unfamiliar faces in school. La Salle was literally flooded with kids, err.. freshmen dressed in ahmm.. exuberant clothes (first day eh.). I was overwhelmed.

This day felt so unusual.

I felt like i'm estranged from my second home. The school grounds were as if new, my friends we're like strangers again, and me like a frosh. It's a weird phenomenon, but i guess it's normal after spending a month and a half in house arrest doing practically nothing.

Much has changed, but everything's still the same.

My summer break was well, almost devoid of trips and gimmicks, but it was nevertheless fun. I've known new friends, i've had time to rest, and i've learned so many things. One of the things I learned is that cheesedogs taste better when dipped in peanut butter. Also, I learned that orange juice can be dangerously addictive, alarm clocks can be so frigging painful (lalo na pag nabagsakan ka sa mukha, which i experienced.), and that ants and worms die when drowned in ethyl alcohol. But now that school's up, it's time to say goodbye to summer. My vacation is officially over.

Haay. I'm back to school. ehehehe..
